Media Guidelines

Submitting a video, images or quotes for a BSHS prize announcement

To help us produce the best possible result, we’d be grateful if you could keep the following points in mind:
 

Video Submission

Length & Format
  • Around 30–60 seconds (up to 90 seconds is fine if needed).
  • Ideally .mp4 or .mov, but we can work with most formats – please send the original.
 
What to include
You might like to mention:
  • who you are;
  • what your article is about (in one or two sentences);
  • what submitting and receiving the prize means to you.
Please don’t worry about following a script—we’re aiming for something natural and personal.
 
Recording tips
  • Record in portrait (vertical) orientation using your phone.
  • Look directly at the camera where possible.
  • Choose a quiet location with good natural light (facing a window usually works well).
  • Try to avoid strong backlighting.
  • If possible, rest your phone on a stable surface rather than holding it.
 

Image Submission

If you’d prefer, or if you’d like to complement your video, you’re very welcome to send up to three images that we can include in the post or edit into the video.
 
These could include:
  • a professional portrait;
  • an image related to your research article (provided you have permission to share it).
 
Please send the original, high-resolution image files where possible (min 1000x1000px). If the images are not your own, please ensure you have permission for the BSHS to use them and let us know how they should be credited.
 

Quote Submission

If you’d prefer not to record a video, or if you’d like us to highlight a particular aspect, you’re welcome to send a short quote for us to feature in the post.
Please keep it to around 50–100 words and clearly identify it in your email (for example by writing “Quote for social media:” before the text). There’s no need to format it—we’ll take care of that.
 

Sending the video/image/quote

Please send the original video file (rather than one compressed through social media messaging) and images via WeTransfer to web@bshs.org.uk if the files are too big to be send via e-mail.
You can send the quote and the image(s) directly to our communications officer Alexander Stoeger at web@bshs.org.uk.
 

Posting distribution

We will use the material to announce the winners and highly commended articles of the BSHS Singer Prize 2026 on our website, BlueSky, Instagram and LinkedIn. We will post highlight posts on social media about every winner and highly commended stretching out over a couple of days, according to our posting schedule.
If you have a social media account on any of these platforms, feel free to let us know your handle and we will tag you in the post. If you post about the prize yourself, feel free to tag us and we will repost your post.
By sending the material, you are confirming that you’re happy for the BSHS to edit the video and images if needed (for example, trimming the beginning or end and adding captions or BSHS branding, cropping the image to fit the social media format) and to share it across our website and social media channels.
